Back when we took private lessons, it consisted of a teacher, a
music stand, and an acoustic piano. No frills, no forward
thinking, no technology.
Today,
our
studios
embrace
each
student
with
surround
sound,
MIDI
(musical
instrument
digital
interface)
which
enables
the
instruments
to
communicate
with
the
computers,
computerized
music
theory,
arranging,
composition,
video
and
recording
equipment with digital quality we only dreamed of 40 years ago.
The
“AV”
building
was
built
behind
The
Music
School
in
2022
to
facilitate
music
video
production,
utilizing
green
screens,
LED
lighting, State of the Art Cameras, Mac Computers and software.
As
our
Students
perfect
new
music,
they
have
the
opportunity
to
record
their
piece
using
our
cutting-edge
computers,
mics
and
other
hardware.
If
they
record
twice,
they
are
able
to
create
a
duet
with
themselves,
or
combine
it
with
a
piano
or
full-band
accompaniment.
Finally, we mix it down to MP3, and send it to their phone.
During
a
typical
Rock
or
Jazz
lesson,
the
internet
is
often
used.
Tablature,
Lyrics,
MIDI
and
MP3
files
are
downloaded
for
instant
access
to
key
information
to
facilitate
the
lesson.
That
information
may
then
be
arranged
and
converted
into
wave
format
as
a
part
of
their
MP3
production.
Students
also
use
MIDI
to
make
a
piano
or
guitar sound like a flute (or 150 other instruments).
As
technology
advanced
and
changed
the
face
of
our
planet,
we
embraced
and
rode
that
change
by
incorporating
it
into
our
instrumental
teaching,
performing,
and
theory
instruction.
And
through
it
all
we
have
not
lost
sight
of
the
fact
that
technology
is
the
slave to our teaching of traditional doctrine (not vice versa).
We
have
come
so
far
that
we
do
not
know
of
any
studio
anywhere
that
can
even
begin
to
compete
with
what
we
offer
on
a
weekly
basis
to
our
students.
We
purchased
our
first
music-theory
computer
in
the
1980's
and
have
stayed
on
the
cutting
edge
of
teaching techniques and technology ever since.
“Anything
less
than
a
conscious
commitment
to
the
important
is
an
unconscious commitment to the unimportant”.
“If
you
do
not
know
where
you
are
going,
every
road
will
get
you
nowhere”.
